According to a New York Times report, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Childish Gambino all turned down the request from the Recording Academy to perform at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Variety has reported that Ariana Grande also declined to perform.
Ken Ehrlich, one of the show's producers, explained why: "The fact of the matter is, we continue to have a problem in the hip-hop world. When they don’t take home the big prize, the regard of the academy, and what the Grammys represent, continues to be less meaningful to the hip-hop community, which is sad."
There is no news yet on who the acts will be, but hip-hop fans are hoping they get some representation.
