Future's 'THE WIZRD' Review

Future's 'THE WIZRD' Review

On his seventh album 'THE WIZRD', Future concludes the trilogy started by 'FUTURE' and followed up by 'HNDRXX', putting at the forefront what kept the last two albums separate. This album has come into mixed reviews and it's easy to see why. Future is mired in his past but embodies his own transformation as an artist.

The 20-track album does mostly draw on the same formula he has been using for years. To his credit, he has brought in a refreshed mixture of flows and production that helps the album to not feel too stagnant, but it's definitely a bit too much in the territory of "familiar".

One of the best things about the album is the transparency and introspection we get from Future. Talking about his personal struggles, he also gives us a compilation of his identities, similar to what Drake did on 'More Life'. However, these are only brief glimpses into clarity from Future, for the most part, he is still keeping to his comfort zone, rapping about girls and money and parties.

The widely-regarded best track on the album is the closer 'Tricks On Me', produced by Nineteen85 who is responsible for tracks like 'Hotline Bling' and 'One Dance' from Drake, as well as Nicki Minaj's 'Truffle Butter'. He is also the man behind the closer on Travis Scott's 'Astroworld', bringing it all home with 'Cofee Bean'. 'Tricks on Me' is the perfect closer, providing that clarity and introspection that fans are after from the man himself.

Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
