What Went Down At The 2018 VMAs

What Went Down At The 2018 VMAs

Yesterday saw the 2018 MTV VMAs go down and it was, well, interesting. With a whole heap of drama that only comes when you chuck some celebs in a room together with a dash of liquor and a whole cup of competitiveness, shit is always gonna get weird. Let's recap.

Madonna Being... Madonna

Goddamn Madonna is so fucking weird. Wearing a FUNERAL SHROUD, she went on stage to give Aretha Franklin a tribute. After briefly throwing the name around a bit, she proceeded to talk about herself for her entire monologue. I'm not kidding, she used this time to tell everyone about her life. Madonna, we KNOW your life. You're ANCIENT.

“Aretha Louise Franklin changed the course of my life,” she said dramatically. ‘I left Detroit when I was 18 with $35 in my pocket. My dream was to make it as a professional dancer. After years of struggling and being broke, I decided to go to musical theatre. I heard the pay was better.” After recounting how she auditioned with a Franklin track, she continued: “None of this would have happened, could have happened, without our lady of soul. She led me to where I am today. And I know she influenced so many people in this house night. In this room tonight. And I want to thank you, Aretha, for empowering all of us." And then proceeded to continue talking about her own career from the MTV Awards in 1984 to the present day. It was a long night.

J Lo's Epic Performance

J Lo won the lifetime achievement award for good reason. Performing a slew of her tracks in a killer medley, the 49-year-old looked just 20 as she swept through her songs and choreography with ease. She won the annual Video Vanguard award, which is awarded to artists with particularly impressive music video back catalogues.

Kylie Jenner Was Bored AF

Always managing to make any event about her, Kylie was in attendance at the VMAs to support her partner Travis Scott, but ended up looking miserable throughout all performances, including Scott's. The pair were slammed after Travis was spotted looking tired and slumped in his seat for the awards. The duo went solo on the red carpet and arrived together, which has paved the way for fans to speculate there might be issues at home. Honestly though, Scott was probs just blazed tbh. Gotta respect it.
