Chris Rock Is Returning To Australia For First Time In Nine Years

Chris Rock will be hitting Australian shores for the first time in nine years with his 'Total Blackout' tour later this year.

It will be his second time touring Australia since his first circuit here in 2008.

The award-winning comedian will hit the major cities this June and, as with all his US dates, will be banning mobile phones during his performance as part of the literal total blackout.

All phones must be checked into locked pouches on arrival which will be released at the end of the show.

Chris Rock's Australian promoter, Paul Dainty, said Rock is one of the first major acts to use this strategy in Australia.

"It’s becoming very common in the US, especially with comedians, and it means people don’t film the jokes and put them online," Paul explained.

According to other Rock officials, the tactic is to promote a "phone-free viewing experience" but some say it is to prevent snippets of the show from leaking online which could compromise Rock's $52 million Netflix contract which will be covering the show exclusively.

'Total Blackout' will be coming to Australia this June.

TOUR DATES
23 Jun - Perth Arena
24 Jun - Brisbane Entertainment Centre
26 Jun - Melbourne Hisense Arena
28 Jun - Sydney Qudos Bank Arena
