Interview With A Culture Kings Graphic Designer

Interview With A Culture Kings Graphic Designer

Here at CK, we constantly get questions about how our artwork is created and our banners are made. After last week's interview with one of our videographers, we decided to sit down with one of our graphic designers Rachael and quiz her on how it works when you design for Culture Kings.

1. What is the best thing about being a graphic designer for CK?

Aside from getting to work on projects that I'm really passionate about, the Culture really is amazing at CK. After working in corporate environments in the past, it's really refreshing to work in a space that embraces individuality and creativity in the same way that I do.

2. What is something people don't know about your job?

Lots of people assume that I got my job by a stroke of luck and that there is some kind of trick you need to work for a brand like Culture Kings. That isn't true at all, I worked really hard in a lot of roles I disliked before I got my position with CK. Hard work, self-improvement and perseverance pays off as a creative, there is no "easy way" to make it.

3. What equipment and software do you use?

I use the Adobe Creative Suite for all of my artwork, Photoshop is the most used in my day-to-day projects as a lot of the work we do is created for a digital space.

4. What skills do you need to do this job well?

There is one thing they don't realistically prepare you for in university, and that is the deadlines. I remember having 3 months to do one assignment, and daydream about how well I had it back then. You need to be able to work fast and work confidently. If you doubt yourself, the project your working on is going to halt its progress, and then you're off course before you know it. When you have 1 day for a branding project or marketing email, you have to inhumanly fast to get it done.

5. What is the most fun design you've been able to create?

I love working on all my projects for different reasons. In-Store artwork gives me the satisfaction of creating art for really aspirational people, Kehlani even posted my art on her Instagram, it's really next level when that stuff happens. But our email marketing is where I really get to let loose and try new things, so I find that really enjoyable despite the fact it's something I do often.

Keep up with the Culture Kings Blog for all the latest in Music, Sport and Streetwear.
