Wiz Khalifa has fallen into a trap that many rappers before him have - spitting a line about "looking Asian" after smoking a blunt an then wondering why the lyrics are coming under fire. In the song 'Hot Now' from 'Rolling Papers 2', Wiz says the line “I'm a different type of being/Drive the type of whip your bitches like to be in/Smoke got my eyes lookin' Korean."
When he copped some heat from the public about the line, he didn't apologise. Instead, he told The Breakfast Club: “Chill out, I’m not a racist. I love all races. I have Korean friends who are not offended, so I don’t know those people who are saying that.”
Although his "chill out" approach may win the favour of a few, the masses are not impressed with the decision to not apologise, even when he has been called out for doing something wrong. One of the biggest racial problems for Asians in the West is their attempt to make their eyes look more European, often turning to surgery. It's estimated that one in 20 Korean American women have had surgery to fix their monoeylids.
When people use the excuse, "Oh, but I have black friends" we get angry, so why is this any different?
