Behind the Heat
Details
The EX89™ sneaker from the SHIGEN 2.0 Pack blends the heritage of the GEL-EXTREME™ basketball shoe from 1989 with influences from Japan's recycling practices. It features a consistent shade of blue that references the idea of recycling in Japan throughout the design. Inspired by Japan's public trash cans, the garbage trucks, and the process of sorting the trash into resources this design reimagines the idea of ugly trash with having a positive connotation. The outsole’s pattern is meant to mirror the view of a city from the sky. This functional grip feature was initially inspired by the designer’s first business trip to the United States in 1987.
