NBA free agency begins on Saturday night and speculations on where one of the biggest stars of the game, LeBron James, will go are everywhere. LeBron has until June 29 to opt out of his $35.6-million contract for next season, which would make him an unrestricted free agent.
Despite fans pulling drastic measures like paying for over 40 billboards trying to get him to consider different teams, LeBron doesn't want any extravagant recruitment strategies.
After losing the MVP award to Harden and taking a hard hit with the Cavs finals loss, LeBron may not choose to stay with Cleveland. There is talk that he will move to the Lakers in Southern California and that seems to be the crowd favourite option. The battle between Cleveland and California will continue until he makes his decision public on Saturday.
Here are ESPN's odds.
According to ESPN:
While James hasn't decided yet whether to pick up his player option, sources close to the situation tell ESPN that he has no intention of hearing elaborate pitch meetings from teams.
James might meet or speak with a club official or owner at some point, but the elaborate presentations that have become common in NBA free agency over the years are unnecessary after 15 seasons in the league.
Should James become a free agent, league sources believe he and his agents Rich Paul and Mark Termini have enough understanding of the stakes and NBA landscape to handle the process without much fanfare.
